Fashion Revolution Day & You {Play to win BIG!}

Fashion Revolution Day & You {Play to win BIG!}

Hello world!

As many of you are probably aware, Fashion Revolution Week is upon us and Fashion Revolution Day is fast approaching on April 24th, the anniversary of the 2013 Rana Plaza factory disaster in Bangladesh. The mission behind this day is to unite the fashion industry and ignite a revolution to radically change the way our clothes are sourced, produced and purchased through increasing the transparency in the fashion industry.

Both of our shops are full of pieces that we love: picnic-approved dresses, bold skirts, adorable housewares, flattering tops & all manner of unique & fun jewellery. When we find something we love, our first question is always: where was this item made?

We believe in ethical production & in sustainable fashion, which is why we carry the work of over 150 independent Canadian designers & makers between the shops. We are committed to Canadian-made and believe in the uniqueness of what we sell. We also strive to connect the makers of our products to the people who buy them. We believe in promoting the fantastic women who choose to produce right here in Canada.

We are also designers ourselves and happily play in our shop studio (visit us, our Ottawa studio is open to the public!) at various times during the week. Our staff are the actual superwomen hand silkscreening our vintage-inspired Canadiana images onto ethically made tees & turning putty into jewellery in all kinds of great geometric shapes. We are so proud of them.

At our shops, we draw a firm line on how and where our merchandise is produced and we've remained steadfast in our commitment. The last 11 years have been like a dream for us: we spend our days with strong, happy, engaging feminist women - staff & customers - who share our values and believe in what we are doing. Life couldn’t be better. As a part of this year's Fashion Revolution Day, we want to highlight our designers and learn more about their production. To do that, we're setting up a few things in store and online to further inform our customers of the dedication of our makers to produce ethical, fashionable garments.

And with that, we've got a challenge for you! We'd love for you to help us recognize our designers by taking a photo of your clothing tag and asking "#whomademyclothes" It's easy to play.

  1. Take a pic of your clothing tag.
  2. Post to Instagram and TAG US.
  3. Use the hashtag  #whomademyclothes and #workshopandflock
With each tagged post, we'll enter you in a contest to win $50 to spend in our stores.
And keep your eyes on Facebook for more chances to win.
In store, we also want you all to have the opportunity to thank our designers for their commitment-- keep your eyes peeled for a special space to leave a message for your favourite designer in Workshop and Flock. Contest closes at midnight on #fashionrevolutionday, April 24th.
And for our part, we're also asking questions. We pride ourselves on our tees being ethically sourced but we want to know more!
